Ever expanding Family law firm is growing again! The team is looking to add a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) with operations across multiple jurisdictions. The incumbent will oversee all financial and accounting functions of the organization while serving as a key advisor to the COO on growth strategy, financial performance, operational efficiency, risk management, and long-term business planning.
This role requires a hands-on executive who can balance strategic leadership with operational execution in a client-focused professional services environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership
• Partner with the COO and the leadership team to develop and execute the firm’s strategic objectives.
• Drive long-term financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, and growth initiatives.
• Provide financial analysis and recommendations regarding expansion opportunities, acquisitions, new service offerings, and operational investments.
• Develop and monitor key performance indicators to support business decision-making and firm profitability.
• Deliver clear and actionable financial insights to executive leadership.
Financial Management
• Lead all accounting, finance, treasury, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting functions.
• Oversee the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports.
• Manage cash flow, financial planning, and working capital requirements.
• Ensure robust internal controls, financial policies, and reporting standards.
• Coordinate annual audits and manage relationships with external auditors, accountants, financial institutions, and advisors.
Legal Industry Financial Operations
• Oversee trust accounting and ensure compliance with applicable Law Society regulations and requirements.
• Monitor firm-wide financial performance, utilization, realization, collections, and profitability.
• Lead billing, accounts receivable, collections, and revenue management processes.
• Analyze department, office, and matter-level financial performance to support operational decision-making.
• Identify opportunities to improve profitability, efficiency, and financial discipline throughout the organization.
Multi-Jurisdictional Operations
• Oversee financial operations across multiple provincial and international jurisdictions.
• Ensure compliance with provincial, federal, and international tax and regulatory requirements.
• Support expansion initiatives and integration of new offices or business entities.
• Manage financial reporting and organizational structures across multiple locations.
Operational Leadership
• Provide leadership and oversight for administrative functions, including finance, technology, facilities, procurement, and vendor management, as appropriate.
• Drive process improvement initiatives and operational efficiencies throughout the firm.
• Evaluate and implement systems and technology that enhance scalability, reporting, and overall business performance.
• Build, mentor, and lead a high-performing finance team.
Governance, Compliance & Risk Management
• Ensure compliance with all applicable financial, regulatory, legal, and professional obligations.
• Support cybersecurity, business continuity, insurance, and corporate governance initiatives.
• Identify and mitigate financial and operational risks to the organization.
Qualifications
Required
• CPA designation required.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
• 6+ years of progressive financial leadership experience, including senior executive-level responsibility.
• Demonstrated experience within a law firm or professional services organization.
• Strong understanding of legal industry financial operations, trust accounting, billing, collections, and profitability management.
• Experience managing complex, multi-location organizations.
• Exceptional strategic planning, financial analysis, and leadership skills.
