Insurance Defence Legal Assistant – downtown Toronto Permanent

Fabulous litigation law firm located downtown Toronto is opening their doors. The firm is primarily insurance defence law. The firm is offering hybrid work (in the office 3 days and 2 days remotely) once the probationary period has lapsed.

Responsibilities:

• Liaise with clients and opposing counsel;
• Prepare pleadings, affidavits, motion records, motion confirmation forms, facta and books of authorities, etc.
• Scheduling of examinations for discovery, mediations, pre-trials, court-mandated conferences, etc.
• Online filing of pleadings and coordination with court offices regarding trial and motions bookings and related court document filings;
• Drafting cover/service letters and coordinating delivery of documents;
• Knowledge of Accident Benefits and LAT mediation/arbitration procedures;
• Admin tasks such as: saving of documents, photocopying, incoming and outgoing mail, entering dockets, etc.

Qualifications:

• Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a litigation assistant.
• Knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure and court practice and procedures at various levels, including but not limited to Notices to the Profession and Regional Practice Directions
• MS Word; MS Outlook, PC Law, Windows
• Excellent written and verbal English skills, including spelling and grammar.
• Ability to deal effectively with all levels of management, while being a team player.
